About the project

“Kilwinning Community Sports Club were delighted to get involved with the Scottish FA Learning Through Football project.

For many years now we have built strong relationships with all the local schools and the chance to get involved with this project was an ideal way to strengthen those links.

During lockdown, many school year groups missed out on so many opportunities that we took for granted such as schools coming together for sporting or shared learning events.

This project brought all 7 schools back together with the focus to learn more about sustainability in football.

The lessons were designed to inform the groups what local and national football teams were doing in their bid to become greener and what they could do themselves to contribute.

Of course, the kids all enjoyed the practical football sessions, but they all really bought into the educational workshops that were delivered and engaged well.

When football is used as a carrot it certainly grabs the majority's attention. So many subject matters can be tackled through football.

The club is already looking forward to next year's opportunity to learn through football”
